Function and Application of β-Arbutin
1. Arbutin can quickly penetrate into the skin, without affecting the concentration of cell proliferation, it can effectively inhibit the activity of tyrosinase in the skin, block the formation of melanin, and accelerate the production of melanin through direct binding with tyrosinase. Decomposition and excretion, thereby reducing skin pigmentation, removing spots and freckles.
2. It is well known that the main factor determining human skin color is melanin, which is synthesized by pigment cells present in the epidermis. Studies have shown that arbutin inhibits tyrosinase activity, but does not affect the expression and synthesis of tyrosinase. It is an ideal depigmenting drug. By affecting the activity of tyrosinase from mushroom and mouse melanoma, the results showed that β-arbutin inhibits tyrosinase from mushroom and mouse melanoma.
3. α-Arbutin only inhibits the tyrosinase of mouse melanoma, and its mechanism is presumed to be mixed inhibition, while the mechanism of β-arbutin is non-competitive. The inhibitory strength of α-arbutin is 10 times that of β-arbutin.
4. Using cultured B16 melanoma cells to study the inhibitory effects of the two compounds on melanin synthesis, it was found that α-arbutin and β-arbutin inhibited tyrosinase at the same level, but the concentration was 1mmol/L α-bear Fruit glycosides did not inhibit cell growth, but β-arbutin showed effective inhibition at the same concentration. Obviously, α-arbutin has higher safety than β-arbutin.
